My World of Woodworking

For over three and a half decades, the rhythmic hum of machinery and the scent of sawdust have been constant companions in my life. Working for a cabinet door manufacturer for 36 years has not only provided me with a career, but it’s also ignited a deep-seated passion: woodworking. Beyond the factory walls, I’ve embraced this passion, transforming it into a rewarding hobby and even a supplemental income stream. From the meticulous design and construction of custom TV consoles, elegant closet storage systems, and sturdy bookcases, to the intricate artistry of laser-cut wooden portraits, personalized boxes, and bespoke signs, woodworking has become my creative outlet, a source of both relaxation and immense satisfaction. Join me as I delve into my world of woodworking, exploring the skills, projects, and experiences that have shaped my journey from factory worker to passionate craftsman.

  1. Morning Sam
I have a couple of questions, if you don’t mind. Do you use a scroll saw or laser cutter for your wood portraits? Also, do you make your patterns for the portraits yourself or do you have someone else make them?
I’ve started making wood portraits. I use a scroll saw. But they look a little different from yours.
    Thanks

    1. Hey Lamar,
I just now saw your comment. I have used my scroll saw for portraits since I started making portraits about 10 years ago. But in the past year I’ve used my laser for a few. The laser is far less forgiving so my patterns need to be a lot more accurate but once set up I can just let it do it’s thing. I make my own patterns which for the most part is what is most time consuming.
